I got back from the Sinai a couple of days ago, where I was on a five day vacation. It was the best vacation I ever had. I went down with Shin Shaked, the former roommate formerly known as Queenie, who will henceforth be known as Malllka, and Shuki and Shahar, Shin's friends. We stayed at a Bedouin owned "resort" near Nuweiba. It was a bunch of bamboo huts, a restaurant/vegging out area, and a nice clear lagoon. The facilities included salt water showers and a porcelin hole in the floor, which is what passes for a toilet in those parts. We chose to use one of the water drip lines for a sweet water shower, and preferred crouching behind an olive tree in the little orchard behind the camp. Shin's cousin worked at the place for a month, and he recommended it to us, and told us to talk to a friend of his, Khadr, who would take good care of us. br>
When we got to the resort, we were immediately assaulted by just about every member of the Bedouin tribe who owns the place, trying to sell us a hut, grass, ice cream, bracelets, and food. We declined and asked where Khadr was. They told us he went to town. br>
The only thing we knew about Khadr is that he's got something wrong with his eye, so we asked for Khadr, pointing to an eye. br>
We sat down at the restaurant, and told them we'll wait for Khadr. About a half hour later, they told us Khadr has arrived. A Bedouin with sunglasses came up to us, introduced himself as Khadr, and told us to come get a hut. Shin started telling him about his cousin, and that he said to send his regards and that he plans on coming back soon. The guy wasn't too impressed. br>
We asked him to take off his glasses, but he said he doesn't take them off. br>
he showed us our hut, pointed towards the facilities, and then asked us if we wanted any grass. We said we'll wait a little. p>
While we were sitting at dinner in the restaurant, one of the Bedouin children came and told us that Khadr just came back from town. This time the real Khadr came to us, and he did have a scar over one of his eyes and was either cross eyed or blind in one eye, I'm not sure. When Shin told him about his cousin he remembered him, and asked when he's coming back. br>
For the rest of the evening all of the Bedouins there asked us if we saw Khadr and started laughing. Tomorrow I'll tell some more about the vacation. Until then, periscopeboy, signing off
